Soul Mates

“People think a soul mate is your perfect fit, and that’s what everyone wants. But a true soul mate is a mirror, the person who shows you everything that is holding you back, the person who brings you to your own attention so you can change your life.
A true soul mate is probably the most important person you’ll ever meet, because they tear down your walls and smack you awake. But to live with a soul mate forever? Nah. Too painful. Soul mates, they come into your life just to reveal another layer of yourself to you, and then leave.

A soul mates purpose is to shake you up, tear apart your ego a little bit, show you your obstacles and addictions, break your heart open so new light can get in, make you so desperate and out of control that you have to transform your life…”
— Elizabeth Gilbert (Eat, Pray, Love)

This is one of my absolute favorite book passages. It definitely helped me get through a difficult time in my love life. Thank goodness that's over and done with. :)

  1. I loved this book. Megan has read her 2nd book, Commited, and she said that's even better.

I agree, when we were younger..we always dreamed of meeting our "soul mate". That one person who is exactly like ourselves that we can relate and find parallel with. But now that we are much older and wiser..we have experienced different kinds of relationships where we learn so much about ourselves and also we discover what kind of person we want to be with.
I've realized that a person who's opposite from you is the perfect fit because you both maintain a balance that keeps you entertained in your relationship. You learn from one another and keep an equilibrium that make a relationship last a lifetime.

lol..okay i went a lil too far there. Basically, soul mates are not intended to be your lifetime partner..they're souls that lead you to them.
